Popped into Assemblage Project on Lonsdale Street and caught 4 Minutes 33 designer Gemma in a gorgeous soft and snugly Wendy Voon cardigan/jacket. The soft grey jacket is made from 100 per cent pure Merino wool and can be worn a number of different ways—just turn it upside down for a whole new look! Gemma was also wearing a gorgeous black pendant by Canberra designer Andie Meredith—setting off another Wendy Voon piece beautifully.
Assemblage Project is the initiative of three Canberra designers and arose from FASHFEST 2013. It includes Gemma and Francesca from 4 Minutes 33, and designer Karen Lee of Karen Lee label. The clothes are designed for all body shapes and sizes and a number of the garments can be worn in many different ways; taking you from work to play in the flick of a wrist.
The front of the shop on Lonsdale Street Braddon is the retail space, while the rear is the hub of the business with designs and garments in progress. If you like a piece on the rack Assemblage will make it for you in a different colour, fabric, or with a slightly different ‘twist’ to suit your personality and style.
Fabrics are soft and drape beautifully, and Karen Lee designs have no darts, zips, and often no seams. Winter garments are soft wool; in either pure Merino or blends, with summer styles in soft cotton and linen. A lot of the designs can also be worn year-round, with winter accessories of jumpers and boots, and staying sleeveless and cool for summer.
Assemblage has recently included a few other Australian designers to its range including Wendy Voon cardigans and jackets, and Andie Meredith accessories.
Assemblage is located at 3a/25 Lonsdale St Braddon and is open for retail sales, one-on-one with clients, and private champagne showings. For more information visit http://www.assemblageproject.com/
